When you think of cutting-edge technology, your mind might drift into sci-fi territory: robots, flying cars, artificial intelligence. In an industry where everything is changing at a rapid intensity, there is a huge emphasis on innovation. In fact, more than 80% of technology executives cite innovation as being a key to their successes. Why, then, are less than half of these same executives actually making an effort to move their data to the cloud?

There are very few companies that, when asked, will say they are perfectly happy with the system that they currently have. Oftentimes, these systems are outdated and bulky. The average organization manages almost 350 applications across multiple cloud platforms. This can slow acceleration of growth and weigh down budgets.

It is important to work to close this gap as technological advances continue to skyrocket. These advances require a new approach to infrastructure implementation and transformation—executives should be managing their infrastructure as if it were a standalone business. It makes sense to invest in infrastructure as if it were its own entity—the same expectation exists that it will deliver products and services with the efficiency and quality they have come to expect from providers. While this approach is a new way of looking at infrastructure, it is able to be broken into methodical steps. Here are 4 steps to get you started:

  1. Align. Executive Management and Information Technology need to be on the same page. What is the core function if the business? What capabilities is the business looking to take on in the coming years?
  2. List. Make a list of the needs of the business. How will technology alter these, enable new outcomes or models, and change the way your information is governed or utilized?
  3. Gap Analysis. Take an objective look at your current system. What is missing or underutilized? What advantages does it have? What improvements need to be made, and what would be nice to have?
  4. Plan. This is where you fill in the gaps that your company may have in order to improve the business strategy, implement new infrastructure to better fit your needs, manage risk, etc.

Implementing new infrastructure doesn’t have to be intimidating, as long as it is done methodically and efficiently. Visit for an intro to our managed cloud solutions and we will help you every step of the way.
